Hill & Griffith Company

Type of Business:
Metal casting and industrial consumable materials

Company Profile:
Hill and Griffith was founded in 1896 in Birmingham, Alabama, by John Hill to serve the Metal Casting Industry. Since this beginning, the Hill and Griffith Company has grown to six manufacturing facilities with products that have supported the growth of the Foundry Industry of North America. With manufacturing facilities in Birmingham, Alabama; Burbank, Ohio; New London, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Indianapolis, Indiana; these operations can effectively meet the needs of the Metal Casting Industry into the next century.

Hill and Griffith has been recognized as a quality leader in the Metal Casting Industry. The concept of quality is not new to Hill and Griffith. John Hill stated, "Hill and Griffith feels that the integrity of the Company must be represented in these products bearing our names and labels." Our quality effort has been recognized by awards and recognition that include: Ford Q-1, General Motors, Chrysler Preferred Supplier, Navistar, Intermet Certified Supplier. In order to embrace the quality efforts of tomorrow, an active TQM (Total Quality Management) program is in place. With the QS9000 registration forthcoming and the goal for continuous improvement, Hill and Griffith will continue as a quality leader.

To better serve the ever changing Metal Casting Industry, the Hill and Griffith Company purchased the Gene Conreaux Company in 1990. The Indianapolis based company has been a leader in quality products including the manufacture of core pastes, liquid partings, release agents, sodium silicate binders, emulsified core oils, mudding compounds, refractory coatings and die and plunger lubes for the Die Casting Industry. In addition, the Indianapolis facility is a supplier representative for many products that include: alloys, sand, riser sleeves, adn many others.

Since the acquisition of the Gene Conreaux Company, Hill and Griffith has also been recognized as a leading supplier of quality sand shapes. This began with oil sand that included strainer cores, pouring basins and other shapes. Following this expansion into the production of shell cores and no bake SO2 cores was next. With increased demand for these products, Hill and Griffith opened its New London Manufacturing Facility designed for high production sand cores. This facility will have the capability of producing warm box, cold box and no bake cores (coated and uncoated).

As an ardent supporter of the Metal Casting Industry, Hill and Griffith actively participates in: Ductile Iron Society, American Foundrymen's Society, Cast Metals Institute, Foundry Education Foundation, Casting Industry Supplier's Association, British Cast Iron Association and many others. Our support includes speaking at the various society's events, serving on committees and other areas that have forwarded the knowledge and understanding of metal casting processes.

In summary, the mission statement of the Hill and Griffith Company reflects the future of our organization:

Our mission is to continually improve the Company's products and services in a manner that will meet or exceed our customer's needs and expectations.
