Simpson Technologies Assists Mohawk College with Simpson+Gerosa Sand Laboratory as They Launch the "Modern Foundries Technology Institute" Simpson Matches Mohawk Dollar for Dollar Wednesday, April 5, 2000 Contact: Mr. Bruce W. Dienst - President Aurora, Illinois - Mohawk College of Applied Arts & Technology of Hamilton, Ontario recently partnered with the Canadian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade to launch the Modern Foundries Technology Institute (MFTI). The MFTI is designed to deliver programs that will foster the development of the Canadian metal-casting industry and provide the technical and managerial skills needed within the industry. In order to ensure that its programs meet the industry's requirements the Institute will be designed by the contributing partners. Strategic skills investment funding, combined with more than $500,000 committed by Canadian Foundry Association members, will assist in establishing a state of the art foundry laboratory at Mohawk College. Simpson Technologies participated as a partner in establishing the MFTI laboratory by providing Mohawk College a full complement of advanced Simpson+Gerosa sand laboratory instrumentation on a dollar for dollar match basis. The laboratory will be one of the most fully equipped educational facilities in the industry including an Electronic Universal Sand Strength Machine, a Digital Absolute Permmeter, a Rapid Sand Washer, a Digital Ultrasonic Cleaner, a Sand Rammer, a Methylene Blue Clay Tester, an Electronic Mold Hardness Tester, a Laboratory Sifter and a Drying Oven - along with most of the available accessories for each. Mohawk College of Applied Arts & Technology was founded in 1947 as the Provincial Institute of Textiles (PIT). The college has operated under various names and in different Hamilton locations for over 50 years. Since its establishment, Mohawk has steadily grown into the Province of Ontarios pre-eminent applied science and technology college with a full-time enrollment of approximately 8,000 students.
